So, I am participating in a residency in Salzburg Austria right now, and i have been here for about 2 weeks and everything is sweet and groovy. i am going to be presenting a performance next week that will take the form of a lecture. i have developed a character who has a keen interest in wood. his name is Randy, and Randy is here, for rather unknown reasons, to give a lecture about wood. Randy is pitifully boring and will lecture for about 2 and half hours, allll about wood. so, here is his introduction, and hopefully later next week i can post some photos and videos of the performance. err...ya.

Hello everyone, can you hear me? Ok, Hello, my name is Randy Langweilig and I am here tonight to talk about a subject that is a great passion of mine. Most of you are probably wondering why, why I am in this particular place delivering a lecture at uh, uh an art opening. Well...(somewhat confused himself at this) well...we can get to that later, for now I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and, uh, maybe familiarize you all with...well, myself and my interests. Again, my name is Randy and I am from Mansfield, Ohio, which for those of you who are unfamiliar with the geography of the United States, um Ohio is located in the midwest region. (A sudden stern facial expression precedes this comment, and it is delivered with a scientific inflection) Which is funny, because uh, the movement of people to the west, combined with the powerful, um, lure, of the west as, a, as an ideal, it it, uh, distorts the sense of symmetry that the concept of center uh, imparts. So, uh, hence the term Middle States is really short lived, so Heartland America is not known as just the Middle States, but as, uh, the Middle West, so that’s a kind of funny little, thing, there. Anyway, So, uh, I grew up in Mansfield, which is towards central Ohio, sort of North of central Ohio, actually. And uh, I was raised on a cattle farm, doing the typical things a farm boy does. Typical chores, and uh, well, ya. I went to elementary school, then high school, and for about a year I attended Ohio State University´s Agricultural Technical institute over there in Wooster. I dropped out because I, I, I was blind to where I was headed, I was messing with drugs and chasing women and I uh, didn´t have a clue who I was or what my purpose was in life. I was, just, blind. So, I worked, briefly, for a Cincinnati company called Berkeley Nutraceuitcals, which developed a certain male-enhancement pill, but has since gone under, the company. So, at this point I took a long look at myself and I said, I said „Randy, you have a purpose in life, and you just need to find out what the hell that purpose is.“ So, I went back to school in Kentucky, there at the University, and earned a bachelor degree in geology and then a graduate degree in uh, forestry. And at this point I had found out, I found out, what I was put on this planet for, and ladies and gentleman, that purpose is wood. So I am here to tell you about wood. Ok, uh, so lets get started...

Visitors were forced onto this stage after climbing the stairs to the second floor of the gallery. Visitors were again forced onto the stage to exit the room. I think capability and incapability in sculpture are big issues to deal with for a viewer. Here, visitors got the chance to embrace their talents or quickly leave the stage, but all were capable of activating the space no matter what their actions were. Activities that escaped documentation over the two nights included: a push up contest, a noise performance from Los Luchadores del Nuclear, and some tap dancing.

A video camera records a certain piece of the gallery being prepared for exhibition. During exhibition a TV monitor is then placed in the exact spot the camera occupied. The TV plays the video of the this spot being prepared. Viewers get to simultaneously look at the wall in two different perspectives. The wall becomes a theatrical being. The gallery becomes a stage.

Christian's spaces have a weird relationship with human bodies. He seems to design spaces that play with the way bodies move through space and organize space. Domesticating this space by vacuuming it helps me better understand its position in relation to my body. Plus, it's kind of humorous.

In 2007 I made a thinking chair that separates one's head from their body through the use of mirrors. It was rough, and mostly meant to be a joke (something like, the separation of mind and body better stimulates transcendental thought patterns). I sat and thought in it for about an hour. A lot went through my mind during that hour.
